Title says all. Was anyone else really disappointed with today's reveal(barring Captain Falcon)? 2 new Fire Emblem reps aren't necessary. Not to mention the Rayman trophy which seemed like it was leading up to something.... I'm still highly disappointed for now

Meh, update from Nintendo. I presumed that Captain Falcon would make it in. * He looks incredible in HD TBH, but the group of white guy swordsmen was unoriginal...

Yeah Girl Marth and Robin were pretty disappointing. Robin at least uses magic though. I'm just happy that C. Falcon was announced for those who wouldn't shut up asking about him. I hope he's good in this game, as he certainly looks cool. I still have the feeling that Sakurai could have just been trolling us though. Getting our hopes up, dashing them, then doing something even bigger later on. He could have taken EVO with those mindgames if that was the case, shame he's such a scrub lol.

On the topic of the Smash EVO 2014 finales I thought it was fun, but Melee is really aging. I mean the gameplay still if fast and efficient as ever, but the game looks so out of place (UGLY) against the likes of say BlazBlue Chrono Phantasm or MK9/ Injustice Gods Among Us.
If Smash 4 doesn't have a good showing next year at EVO that will definitely be good for Indie Assault, but a sad day that the competitive community of the game doesn't want to move forward. Look at Mortal Kombat X with the 3 character variations is switching up each fighters style and making for a gripping tournament scene and ED Boon already wants to embrace the competitive community with this forthcoming title.

Well there are really no other games like it and Brawl isn't a competitively viable/exciting game. It's very old and very limited in terms of characters but I feel that they're reaching the bottom of the barrel in terms of new things to learn in the game. Sure players will get better but some extra variety would be nice. At least Melee's look holds it own visually through good aesthetics but a newer game built with competition in mind would be far better. Unfortunately I feel like the community would only accept a good platform fighter if it was Smash. A lot of them are just Nintendo fanboys tbh. I really do hope Indie Assault does well and maybe even inspire more platform fighters.

True. Correct, Smash is essentially the COD of platform fighters and anything else people seem to feel frictional towards other platform fighters. When there are easily numerous successful fps titles outside of COD/ Battlefield like Borderlands 2 and KillZone 3 [that round out the FPS genre].
Thank you, and I'll be formally announcing a new stream session tomorrow set for Wednesday July 16th at 7 PM PST.
Also, I know maybe I'm a little jealous that I won't be getting Smash Bros Wii U because I won't invest in a $300 console for 1 title. Now, if they do a Bayoneta alternate skin for Zero Suit Samus character would likely change my mind. They already have a Samus outfit in Bayoneta 2 it only fees fair...

The thing there though is that there are other FPSes (me personally being partial to the Quake/Doom more arena-styled ones). If you want to play another platform fighter you have to settle for PSABR, TMNT Smash-Up, Cartoon Network Punchtime Explosion, or another of that sort. None of which are any good, or at the very least hardly like Smash. I'll be looking forward to it. Bayonetta 1&2 is coming to the Wii U so you never know, man.

PSASBR tried to copy Smash(at least they admitted it), but in it's execution left many things wrong. Even after the patch, it's not hard to say that the game as it is remains a lackluster title. The only reason I moved on from UMVC3 to PSAS was because it was growing stale. While I did enjoy my time there as it was, most of it was a huge crapload of tolerating the extremely cancerous community whose immaturity and amount of trolling is admirable in the worst possible way. Even after I quit I still look at the official forums and think "why aren't they shut down yet?". Whoops, got off topic there. I'll make a separate discussion sometime expressing my full thoughts.
Melee is unquestionably popular, but it's overstayed it's welcome. Project M is the furthest logical distance that Melee can go despite being a mod of the same, and it should stay there, even if it can't be officially recognized by Nintendo.
And now that the WII U can be hacked, expect Melee fans to start hacking Smash Wii U at least 4 months after it's out. Just a reminder of how Melee's legacy cannot possibly die.

Well a good platform fighter with at least a few of Melee's elements will have to have something pretty special and unique without being a gimmick to be good unfortunately. New things have been discovered about Melee even after all these years but I feel like a lot of players don't want to quit the game because of their history with it, but no one plays SFII anymore, or any other older games. It's probably also that Nintendo will recognize Melee. PM is the more competitively viable/interesting game, but since Nintendo can't and Brawl isn't viable in that regard then it has to be so. Which is where a competitive platform fighter in the hands of the community comes into play. Something we can call our own and can do as we please with without anyone trying to tell us otherwise or saying how we have to do things. Melee's history is undoubtedly rich and interesting, but it's also just that. History.

@liquid- Yeah, totally agree about the PSABR thing. Still, IMO TowerFall isn't filling the platform fighting space in my heart on the PS4. TowerFall is an excellent multiplayer title (don't get me wrong), but since there is limited variety excluding the physics on the arrows which you need to be a pro to master there isn't a retaining factor there for me. maxfalcon- Yeah, your very right. I am going to work really hard come this Fall to not only secure funding, yet also a way that our team is able to proficiently interact with our amazing community throughout the game's entire development from V 1.0 through for a very very long time(Karate chop) :B One of the areas I'm worried about this Fall is losing the IP, and 2ndly losing the option to interact with the community because AAA publishers have strict NDA that studio's must adhere to so that their marketing department *hopefully* makes the game big at the conventions they take the IP's to. @crytek- Failed the HomeFront IP now that they have been having financial troubles in the UK branch and more importantly the game's Director recently departed the studio now officially on LinkedIn.
